How we started
Welcome to the Amina Bashir Memorial Trust. The charity trust formed to provide free treatment to the poor in a deprived community. ABMT stands for the Amina Bashir Memorial Trust, named in memory of the late mother of the Muhammed Riaz Bhatti and his siblings.
The ABMT was founded with a clear vision and mission to serve the poor and marginalized thalassemia patients in our community who couldn’t afford the cost of treatment. The journey began with the family facing significant challenges in terms of financial resources and operations. Still, they were determined to overcome these obstacles and serve the community with their best efforts.
Initially, the family invested their family home, in Misri Shah Lahore. The community in this district is formed of mainly low income earners barely able to afford their daily needs. They paid for the conversion of the centre with their own savings and resources to establish the trust and set up a small clinic to provide free treatment to the poor. They faced several challenges, including a lack of funding, insufficient infrastructure, and limited resources. However, with their commitment and hard work, they gradually gained the trust and support of the community, which allowed them to overcome these challenges and continue their mission.
Over time, the trust has grown and expanded its operations. Today, it has a team of experienced doctors, nurses, and support staff who work tirelessly to provide the best possible care to thalassemia patients.
The ABMT has treated over a patients so far, with over sixty are regular attenders while others attend intermittently due to the distance they have to travel or simply lack of understanding of the problem.
Our staff are very diligent and thorough and the parents of the children are made aware of the importance of continuing the treatment for the patient to survive and lead a near normal life.
ABMT instituted holistic approach of including the entire family involved to treat the child. We offer free travel costs where required and the family enjoy a nourishing meal while the siblings play in a well designed play area while the parents keep a watch beside their child. This strategy has succeeded and brought about better results of treating the patient successfully.
Our success rate of treatment is now excellent, as compared to the State and other clinics run by other charitable organisations. Patients who were previously struggling with the disease have been able to recover fully and live a healthy life. The trust’s impact on the community has been significant, as it has provided hope and support to many families who were otherwise unable to afford the cost of treatment.
ABMT is a testament to the power of dedication, commitment, and community support. It is a charity trust that has overcome significant challenges to provide free treatment to thalassemia patients in a deprived community. We remain committed to our mission and vision of serving the poor and marginalized, and we welcome your support in this noble cause.
